SUNRISE, Fla. – The Florida Panthers acquired defenceman Magnus Johansson from the Chicago Blackhawks on Thursday for a seventh-round draft pick in 2009.
Johansson, 34, appeared in 18 games for the Blackhawks this season and picked up four assists. He was signed as a free agent over the summer.
“Magnus is a mobile defenseman that knows how to move the puck quickly and join in on the offensive attack,” said Panthers GM Jacques Martin. “He will also provide support on our power play.”
Florida has been dealing with several injuries on defence. Blue-liners Branislav Mezei, Noah Welch, Mike Van Ryn and Cory Murphy are all currently out of the lineup.
