Panthers acquire Tarnasky from Predators in exchange for Belak

SUNRISE, Fla. – The Florida Panthers acquired centre Nick Tarnasky from the Nashville Predators on Thursday in exchange for right-winger Wade Belak.

“Nick is a hard-working, tough and responsible player who will fit well on our club,” Panthers GM Jacques Martin said in a release. “He is an individual that will add speed, grittiness and a physical presence to our lineup each night.”

Tarnasky, 24, had one assist and 17 penalty minutes in 11 games for the Predators this season. In 180 career NHL games with Nashville and Tampa Bay, he has 21 points (11-10) and 179 penalty minutes.

Belak, 32, had zero points and 25 penalty minutes in 15 games with the Panthers this season. He has 29 points (8-21) and 1,133 penalty minutes in 457 career NHL games with Florida, Colorado, Calgary and Toronto.
