MONTREAL – The Florida Panthers claimed checking forward Garth Murray off re-entry waivers from the Montreal Canadiens on Tuesday.
The Canadiens will be responsible for half of the remainder of Murray’s US$625,000 salary for this season, and their share will count against their salary cap.
Murray, a physical, six-foot-two 210-pound left-winger, dressed for only one game this season for Montreal. He missed six games with a foot injury in October.
The Regina native was acquired in September, 2005 from the New York Rangers in exchange for forward Marcel Hossa. In 100 career NHL games, he has eight goals and two assists.
Murray was placed on waivers last week and assigned to Hamilton of the American Hockey League. He went on re-entry waivers on Monday.
