Canadian sports network TSN reports that Florida Panthers GM Dale Tallon has submitted a proposal for a coach’s video challenge to NHL senior VP and director of hockey operations, Colin Campbell.
NHL GMs will get together in Toronto Tuesday, Nov. 9 for an annual meeting where this proposal will likely be discussed.
Tallon’s proposal would apply only to goal-related plays and can only be performed by a coach once per game before their timeout is used. An unsuccessful challenge would result in a loss of a timeout, while a successful challenge would result in the team keeping its timeout.
On Tuesday, Oct. 26 the Panthers lost a game in Toronto after Colton Orr interfered with goalie Scott Clemmensen on the game’s winning goal, but wasn’t called by the referees.
