PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Pittsburgh Penguins have signed former Tampa Bay forward Ryan Craig to a two-way contract that will pay him US$500,000 if he plays in the NHL next season.
The 28-year-old Craig had 23 goals and 25 assists in 73 games last season with Norfolk, Tampa Bay’s top farm team. The six-foot-two, 220-pound Craig has 32 goals and 31 assists in 184 NHL games.
After signing defencemen Paul Martin and Zbynek Michalek to a combined $45 million in contracts on the first day of NHL free agency Thursday, the Penguins are not expected to sign any higher-profile free agent forwards.
They have not re-signed forward Bill Guerin, who made $2 million last season and does not want to take a large pay cut for the second successive off-season.
