Pittsburgh Penguins centre Sidney Crosby named NHL’s first star of week

NEW YORK – Pittsburgh Penguins centre Sidney Crosby was named the NHL’s first star of the week Monday.

He led all players with 12 points (four goals, eight assists) in four games last week. Crosby finished the regular season with 51 goals, good for a share of the league lead with Tampa Bay’s Steven Stamkos.

Centre Eric Staal of the Carolina Hurricanes was named second star and Washington Capitals centre Nicklas Backstrom took the third star.

Staal had nine points (5-4) in three games last week while Backstrom had nine points (3-6) in four games.
