TORONTO – Sergei Gonchar has finally returned to the Pittsburgh Penguins lineup.
The veteran defenceman dressed for his first game of the season Saturday as the Penguins visited the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Gonchar suffered a dislocated right shoulder during Pittsburgh’s first pre-season game in September. The team has struggled without him and currently sits outside the Eastern Conference playoff picture.
Pittsburgh’s power play has been quarterbacked by Gonchar the past few seasons. He had 12 goals and 65 points in 78 games last season.
The 34-year-old has played over 900 career NHL games.
Also Saturday, forward Ruslan Fedotenko returned to Pittsburgh’s lineup after missing 15 games with a broken right hand.
