Player of the Week – May 24, 2010

The Hockey News player of the week for the period of May 17-23 is once again Philadelphia Flyers goalie Michael Leighton.

The 29-year-old followed up honors last week with another two shutouts in three games to give Philly a 3-1 lead in the Eastern Conference final.

Leighton began the week by stopping 30 shots in Game 2 for his second of back-to-back clean sheets to start the series against the Canadiens.

After an poor effort in Game 3, giving up five goals on 38 shots, Leighton got back on track in the fourth game, stopping all 17 shots in front of a hostile crowd in Montreal.

All told, Leighton, a waiver-wire pickup in December from Carolina, has a 5-1 record along with a 1.37 GAA and .951 SP.
