Player of the Week – May 25

The Hockey News’ player of the week for the period of May 18-24 is Evgeni Malkin of the Pittsburgh Penguins.

As his team has jumped out to a 3-0 series lead on the Carolina Hurricanes, Malkin has been a force offensively, putting up six goals and nine points in three games.

The best game for Malkin was Game 2, where he notched a hat trick and added an assist for a four point game. It was because of that late-game dominance from the slick Russian that the Penguins were able to pull away for a 7-4 win in what oculd have been a momentum-shifting game.

Malkin has picked up his play as of late. After starting the second round series against Washington with five points in five games – a lofty total for some – Malkin finished that series with five points in two games before going on his current tear against the Hurricanes.

The Art Ross winner and his team will look to sweep the Canes and advance to their second Cup final in as many years Tuesday night in Carolina.
