Player of the Week – Nov. 29

The Hockey News player of the week for the period of Nov. 22-28 is Atlanta Thrashers goalie Ondrej Pavelec.

The 23-year-old Czech has been lights-out in 14 games for the upstart Thrashers this season, but this past week was his best seven-day period yet.

In the first game against the high-powered Detroit offense, Pavelec faced 33 shots and stopped all but one of them. The Thrashers had him covered with five goals for, but it was Pavelec’s sixth 30-plus save effort on the season.

Two nights later the Thrashers took on Montreal at home. Pavelec recorded his second shutout in four games in a 25-save effort for a 3-0 victory. Finally, two nights after that, the Thrashers hosted the Boston Bruins. The Bruins matched Columbus for the most shots against Atlanta in a single game this year at 41, but Pavelec turned aside 40 of them to earn a 4-1 win.
