Red Wings forward Tomas Holmstrom sits out Game 4 of Stanley Cup

PITTSBURGH – The Detroit Red Wings were without Tomas Holmstrom for Game 4 of the Stanley Cup final against the Pittsburgh Penguins as the pesky forward continues to recover from a right leg injury.

Holmstrom joined the Red Wings for Saturday morning’s practice but did not take the pre-game skate, confirming he wouldn’t play. Holmstrom suffered the injury in Wednesday’s 3-2 Game 3 loss after he was knocked down by Pittsburgh defenceman Hal Gill and tumbled into the Penguins net.

Dan Cleary took Holmstrom’s spot on the top line with Pavel Datsyuk and Henrik Zetterberg. Darren McCarty was pencilled into the lineup in Holmstrom’s place after missing the previous two games as a healthy scratch.

Holmstrom has four goals and eight assists in 19 post-season games.
