Red Wings sign veteran winger Brad May to a one-year contract

DETROIT – The Detroit Red Wings signed veteran forward Brad May to a one-year contract on Thursday.

The 37-year-old left-winger split last season between Anaheim and Toronto, recording a goal and six assists with 89 penalty minutes in a total of 58 games.

He was picked by Buffalo as the 14th overall selection in the 1990 NHL draft.

The native of Toronto has played 1,001 career NHL games with the Sabres, Vancouver Canucks, Phoenix Coyotes, Colorado Avalanche, Ducks and Maple Leafs.

He has 127 career regular-season goals and 160 assists.
