After 20 seasons with the Dallas Stars franchise, it appears Mike Modano is coming home.
Citing unnamed sources, the Detroit Free Press is reporting on its website Monday that the most prolific American-born goal scorer in NHL history will sign a contract with the Detroit Red Wings.
Modano did not confirm the report, but he did send the Free Press a text stating: “Big announcement Thursday.”
Modano, who was born in Livonia, Mich., has 557 goals and 802 assists in 1,459 games, all with the Stars franchise.
The 40 year old was drafted first overall by the Minnesota North Stars in the 1988 entry draft.
He had a career-high 93 points in the 1992-93 season, the franchise’s last in Minnesota. He equalled that feat the next season after the Stars moved to Dallas.
