Sabres agree to two-year contract with free-agent D Shaone Morrisonn

BUFFALO, N.Y. – Free-agent defenceman Shaone Morrisonn has agreed to a two-year contract with the Buffalo Sabres, the team announced Monday.

Morrisonn, a seven-year NHL veteran, spent the past five-plus seasons with Washington. The six-foot-four, 217-pound Vancouver native was consistently among the Capitals leaders in hits and blocked shots.

The 27-year-old had one goal and 11 assists in 68 games with Washington last season.

Morrisonn was selected 19th overall in the 2001 draft by Boston, and broke into the NHL the following season with the Bruins. He has 10 goals and 60 assists and 423 penalty minutes in 418 career games.

Buffalo, which signed defenceman Jordan Leopold last month, is retooling its blue-line after losing Henrik Tallinder and Toni Lydman in free agency this summer.
