Sabres approach decision time on rookie defenceman Tyler Myers

BUFFALO, N.Y. – Sabres coach Lindy Ruff has no difficulty praising rookie Tyler Myers for how he’s played eight games into the season.

That doesn’t mean Ruff’s ready to say whether the six-foot-eight defenceman will remain on the roster the rest of the year. It’s decision time for the Sabres, who will spend one more game evaluating Myers before determining whether to keep him or return him to Kelowna of the Western Hockey League.

That decision will be made after Buffalo plays at New Jersey on Wednesday. Under NHL rules, Myers’ three-year contract kicks in once he plays his 10th NHL game.

The 19-year-old has not looked out of place so far. He has two goals and three assists, and scored the decisive shootout goal in a 3-2 win at Tampa Bay last weekend.
