Sanford stops 23 shots as Bulldogs blank Stars 3-0, take 3-2 series lead

CEDAR PARK, Texas – Curtis Sanford made 23 saves and David Desharnais had a goal and an assist as the Hamilton Bulldogs blanked the Texas Stars 3-0 on Saturday to take a 3-2 lead in the American Hockey League’s Western Conference final.

Hamilton will look to close out the best-of-seven series at home on Monday and book a date in the Calder Cup final against Hershey. The Bears were crowned Eastern Conference champions on Saturday after eliminating the Manchester Monarchs 3-2 in overtime to take the series 4-2.

Ryan Russell opened the scoring on a Hamilton power play in the first period on a feed from Desharnais.

Mike Glumac put the Bulldogs up 2-0 with his 11th of the playoffs early in the second. Desharnais completed the scoring at 15:33 of the second.

Matt Climie made 30 saves for Texas which went 0-for-4 on the power play.
