Senators name Tim Murray assistant GM, Brent Flahr as director of hockey ops

Murray, the nephew of Sens GM Bryan Murray, has 15 years of scouting experience, the past two with the New York Rangers, where he evaluated amateur players and evaluating potential free agents.

“I have always been impressed with Tim’s ability and track record in assessing players at the amateur and pro levels,” Bryan Murray said in a statement. “Tim has also showed the interest and administrative acumen to step up to the role of assistant general manager.”

The Murrays have also worked together in Detroit, Florida and Anaheim.

Tim Murray, aside from helping the hockey operations department, will also oversee the AHL Binghamton Senators as well contract research and negotiations, salary arbitration, player transactions and personnel matters.

Flahr’s responsibilities will include scouting operations, planning and day-to-day hockey administration, the NHL club announced Thursday. Flahr will also work closely with the Murrays.

Flahr, 33, has spent the last four seasons working as an amateur scout for the Anaheim Ducks. From 1996 to 2003, he spent eight seasons as part of the Florida Panthers organization, serving in a variety of positions, including assistant to the general manager, and scouting and video co-ordinator. He was also the director of hockey operations for the Panthers’ AHL affiliate, the San Antonio Rampage.
