Senators sign former Ottawa 67’s fan favourite Zenon Konopka to one-year deal

OTTAWA – The Ottawa Senators added a little muscle on Tuesday after the club signed tough guy Zenon Konopka to a one-year deal.

The 30-year-old spent last season with the New York Islanders, registering two goals, seven assists and a league-high 307 penalty minutes.

Konopka also ranked fourth in the NHL with a 57.7 per cent faceoff success rate.

Undrafted out of junior, Konopka has played 195 career NHL regular-season games with Anaheim, Columbus, Tampa Bay and the Islanders, registering eight goals, 14 assists and 684 penalty minutes.

Konopka spent his entire junior career with the Ontario Hockey League’s Ottawa 67’s, appearing in 242 games from 1998 to 2002 while registering 185 points (53-132) and 389 penalty minutes.
