Sens sign third-round pick Zack Smith to entry-level deal

OTTAWA – The Ottawa Senators signed centre Zack Smith to an entry-level contract, the club announced Thursday.

Smith was the Sens’ third pick, 79th overall, in this year’s entry draft. He attended the club’s development camp in late June.

Smith led the Western Hockey League’s Swift Current Broncos last season, scoring 69 points on 22 goals in 72 games, while adding 136 penalty minutes. He added five goals, five assists in 12 playoff games for the Broncos, who were eventually defeated by the Calgary Hitmen in the WHL’s Eastern Conference semi-final.

In four seasons with Swift Current, Smith scored 41 goals and added 79 assists while recording 344 penalty minutes in 221 games.
