Shark Sits: NHL hands San Jose forward Scott Nichol a four-game suspension

TORONTO – San Jose Sharks forward Scott Nichol was given a four-game suspension by the NHL on Tuesday for delivering a blow to the head of Phoenix Coyotes defenceman David Schlemko.

The incident occurred midway through the third period of San Jose’s 4-2 victory on Monday night. No penalty was assessed on the play.

Schlemko suffered an injury and did not return in the game.

Nichol will forfeit US$16,344.08 in salary. He will be eligible to return Feb. 2 at Anaheim.
