Shirokov scores in regulation, shootout as Moose defeat Penguins 2-1

WINNIPEG – Sergei Shirokov scored Manitoba’s lone goal in regulation and the shootout winner as the Moose earned a 2-1 American Hockey League win over the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins on Friday.

Moose goaltender Daren Machesney stopped 26 shots in regulation and all five Penguin shooters in the shootout.

Shirokov, in his first game since being sent down by the Vancouver Canucks, opened the scoring for the Moose (8-4-2) at 5:05 of the wrist period. With Wilkes-Barre’s Nate Guenin in the box on a delay-of-game penalty, Shirokov fired the rebound of a Matt Pettinger shot past Penguins goaltender John Curry.
