Simon Gagne to return to NHL game action Saturday versus Carolina

Simon Gagne is close to making a return to the NHL.

The Flyers forward, who played only 25 games last year due to concussion problems, is expected to make a return to game action Saturday when the Flyers host the Hurricanes.

Gagne did not dress for Monday’s game against New Jersey and is not anticipated to play Wednesday against Ottawa or Thursday against the Islanders. Gagne has not suffered from any concussion symptoms, but is taking time to get back into game shape.

The 28-year-old is one of the biggest question marks heading into the season on a Philadelphia team that advanced to the Eastern Conference final last season.

The 22nd overall pick in the 1998 NHL draft, Gagne has 208 goals and 410 points in 527 career games.
