Skinner, Ward lead Hurricanes in game marred by Samsonov’s injury

ATLANTA – Jeff Skinner scored 1:17 into the third period, Cam Ward made 32 saves and Carolina beat Atlanta 1-0 in a pre-season game Saturday night marred by an injury to the Hurricanes’ Sergei Samsonov.

Samsonov was taken off the ice on a stretcher after he was tripped by Thrashers defenceman Dustin Byfuglien on a rush and crashed into the end boards with 18:05 left in the game. The team said Samsonov was taken to a hospital for observation and that he had full feeling in all his extremities.
