Sean Avery was voted off of Dancing With the Stars this week and when Martin Brodeur was asked about it today, it reignited an old, dormant rivalry.
So, you all remember the unlikely feud between all-time great Martin Brodeur and all-time heel Sean Avery, right?
Just in case, here’s a refresher…
The NHL had to make a new rule after that stick-swinging incident to prevent a screen like that from happening again. After the Rangers beat the Devils out of the playoffs in five games that season, Brodeur didn’t shake Avery’s hand in the lineup, to which Avery said “Fatso forgot to shake my hand.”
Well, even though Avery hasn’t played in the NHL since the 2011-12 season, this rivalry appears to be alive and well.
Avery was part of this season’s Dancing With the Stars series, but was eliminated in this week’s episode.
Martin Brodeur, naturally, was asked about his thoughts on Avery’s exit, to which he told NJ.com: “I didn’t watch, I don’t watch those shows, but I was watching NHL Network and they mentioned it. What more could he do to embarrass himself? There it is!
Well, Avery got wind of Brodeur’s comments and couldn’t help but fire back over Twitter.

That tweet has since been deleted.
Sean Avery, as classy as ever. Too bad no one like Brett Hull was around to grab him by the back of the jersey.
