Solving the Isles’ goaltending woes

Jim Bono, Hicksville, N.Y.

I honestly feel the goaltending issues with the Islanders can easily be fixed, but it will cost owner Charles Wang a little money. Here’s my plan:

1. I hate to say this, but Rick DiPietro is done. They need to get rid of him one way or another, be it a buyout, waivers or trade (though I doubt anyone would want him). He’s a great guy, but it’s doubtful he’ll return to full form and the team needs to move on.

2. While Dwayne Roloson stole some games this year, GM Garth Snow and Wang have to remember he’s going to be 41 years old. Keeping him around is just as stupid as signing DiPietro to a 15-year deal. It was nice having Roloson, but it’s time to find someone else.

3. Stop playing around with Martin Biron. The guy is a proven starter and his play at the beginning of the season faltered due to a lack of offensive support and consistency. He returned to form in the last month of the season and was part of the reason the Isles still played with a winning attitude. He’s 32, so sign him, make him your starter and bring up one of the kids from Bridgeport to back him up.
