Stanley Park statue’s stolen Canucks jersey back, thanks to Vancouver police

VANCOUVER – One of Vancouver’s most stone-faced Canucks fans has her game face back on, thanks to police.

Vancouver police say they have recovered a Canucks jersey stolen from a famous statue of a girl sitting on a rock in the waters off the city’s iconic Stanley Park.

Officers on patrol downtown found the jersey that had been stripped from the statue, Girl in a Wetsuit, where it was placed by an unknown Canucks fan earlier in the week.

Members of the department’s marine squad were able to nose their Zodiac up to the sculpture to replace the jersey and tie it down.

Meanwhile, police in West Vancouver have nabbed some vandals who’d swiped the Canucks sweater off one of the stone lions guarding the entrance to the Lions Gate bridge.

A man and woman from Gibsons and another man from Campbell River could face charges over what was the second theft of the jumbo-sized jerseys in less than a week.
