SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Steve Kelly scored twice as the Syracuse Crunch defeated the Hamilton Bulldogs 6-3 on Monday afternoon.
Aaron Rome added a goal and an assist for Syracuse, while Dan LaCosta made 28 saves to record the win.
Following the a 6-2 loss to Hamilton on Saturday night, Syracuse came out flying, with Kelly opening the scoring 1:49 into the contest.
Kelly corralled the puck in the Hamilton zone and zipped a wris shotr over the left shoulder of Bulldogs goalie Marc Denis to give the Crunch a 1-0 lead.
Kevin Harvey made it 2-0 at the 8:47 mark on a partial breakaway, beating Denis to the stick side.
Hamilton pulled one back when Ben Maxwell’s shot from the bottom of the right circle found its way through LaCosta to make it 2-1.
However Syracuse (20-18-2-2) owned the second period, outshooting Hamilton 14-4 and scoring twice.
Kelly scored his second of the game at the 3:32 mark to restore a two-goal advantage, before Ryan Garlock deflected a shot past Denis with just over four minutes remaining in the frame to stretch it to 4-1.
Hamilton (26-15-2-0) pulled to within 4-3 early in the third period on goals by Yannick Weber and Mike Glumac.
But that was as close as the Bulldogs would get as Rome’s point shot took a fluky bounce and fluttered past Denis at the 11:59 mark to make it 5-3 before Craig MacDonald iced the game with an empty-netter.
Denis, making his first start since Dec. 30, made 29 saves in taking the loss.
