COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Blue Jackets activated goaltender Steve Mason off injured reserve on Friday and assigned Dan LaCosta to the club’s American Hockey League affiliate in Syracuse.
Mason is expected to be in goal against the Detroit Red Wings on Friday night.
Mason missed the last three games after he was diagnosed on Jan. 29 with mononucleosis. He leads the NHL in shutouts (7) and goals-against average (2.09). The 20-year-old has a 19-12-2 record and a .923 save percentage in 34 games since being called up a month into the season.
In his first two NHL starts, the 22-year-old LaCosta went 2-0 with a 1.54 GAA and a .950 save percentage, shutting out Colorado on Saturday night.
