With all the talk about owners not wanting to send players to the Olympics out of fear of injuries, I would like to bring up a counter-point. While I agree that the Olympics provide only a chance of injury for any player, it does guarantee currently injured players will miss fewer games.
Tell me the Montreal Canadiens aren’t happy that Mike Cammalleri will miss 5-7 fewer games because of the Olympic break? Same with the Leafs and Mikhail Grabovski (although he finds other ways to get in trouble). Same with Rene Bourque, Tom Poti, David Clarkson, Joffrey Lupul, Milan Hejduk, Nathan Horton, Kevin Bieksa and many more players and their teams.
The Olympics do pose a threat to some of the most talented players in the world, but if you are already injured, it makes the stretch run a little bit easier for yourself and your team.
Something that more people should be talking about.
