There is no more deserving a player to win the Masterton Trophy this year than Washington’s Jose Theodore.
A lot of people may have forgotten, but not even one year ago, Theodore lost his two-month-old son, Chase, due to complications from a premature birth.
It happened with just more than a month to go before the season began. Theodore, however, persevered, and played his heart out for 47 games during the season for the Capitals, leading them to a playoff berth.
Theodore has proven he not only exemplifies the qualities of perseverance and dedication to hockey, but his perseverance in the face of tragedy.
Theodore is truly one of the sports most dedicated players and a person worthy of respect and admiration.
