What will an outdoor NHL game in California look like? Something like this architectural rendering released by the NHL today. In two words: very nice. Now, if the ice will just cooperate.
What will an outdoor NHL game in California look like?
Aside from the pools of melting ice, of course. (I kid, I kid)
Well, it’ll look something like this architectural rendering released by the NHL today. In two words: very nice.
Note the palm trees in centerfield and beach volleyball court in left field, two components of a hockey game you’ll only witness in Cali. Let’s hope there won’t be any palm tree-obstructed seat views. Then again, this is the NHL. It’s certainly possible.
There’s also a stage in right field and ball hockey court near home plate. In a press release the NHL explained how those and the volleyball court will be used during the event.
The stage in right field will feature special pre-game and first intermission performances from legendary rock band and 2014 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Inductees KISS. Local beach volleyball players will play before the game and during the first and second intermissions on the beach volleyball sand court located in left field. Centerfield will feature palm trees in a nod to the game’s Southern California setting.
Participants from the Ducks and Kings’ NHL Street hockey programs will scrimmage on the street hockey rink adjacent to the NHL rink.
There are still some tickets available for this unique game (in the fact it’s an outdoor ice game in sunny California). The showcase, between the Los Angeles Kings and Anaheim Ducks, is scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 25 at 9:30 Eastern.
