Thrashers hope to end slump vs. Hurricanes

RALEIGH, North Carolina (Ticker) — The Atlanta Thrashers will
attempt to snap a three-game losing skid when they visit the
Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday.

The Thrashers surrendered four goals in the first period
Thursday en route to a 5-4 loss to the New York Islanders.

Rookie defenseman Zach Bogosian is becoming a bright spot for
Atlanta, which is 10-21-3 in its last 34 games.

The 18-year-old Bogosian netted his third career goal during the
loss to the Islanders. He has five points and a plus-3 rating
in 16 contests this season.

The Hurricanes have won three of their last four after suffering
through a season-long, five-game losing streak.

All-Star Eric Staal snapped a tie with 96 seconds remaining in
the third period as Carolina edged the Tampa Bay Lightning, 3-2,
on Thursday. Matt Cullen recorded a goal and an assist and Chad
LaRose netted the first shorthanded goal of the season.
