Toronto Maple Leafs trade Carter Ashton, David Broll to Tampa Bay Lightning

The Toronto Maple Leafs have shipped forwards Carter Ashton and David Broll to the Tampa Bay Lightning for a conditional seventh-round pick in 2016.

The Toronto Maple Leafs have struggled amidst an 0-9-1 slide in their last ten games, leading into their contest against the New Jersey Devils Friday and their rabid fan base have been calling for some trade action.

On Friday, the Maple Leafs made a trade, albeit a small one, shipping forwards Carter Ashton and David Broll to the Tampa Bay Lightning for a conditional seventh-round pick in 2016.

The 23-year-old Ashton is a former first-round pick of the Lightning, drafted 29th overall in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft. He has three points in 54 career NHL games and eight points (four goals and four assists) in 12 games for the AHL’s Toronto Marlies this season.

Broll was a sixth-round pick (152nd) overall in 2011 and has played five career NHL games, earning 1 assist.
