VANCOUVER – The Vancouver Canucks blue-line has taken another hit with Kevin Bieksa being lost to an injured left foot.
Bieksa was hurt blocking a shot Tuesday in Minnesota, but finished the game before tests Wednesday revealed an injury.
“I think it was one of those things where I kind of knew, I had a feeling,” Bieksa said Thursday before the team’s game in Nashville. “You get hit in the foot probably thousands of times with pucks and you kind of have a feeling there’s something wrong. It didn’t feel like the usual shot that hurt.”
Bieksa said X-rays came back negative before a CT scan showed a smaller crack in the bone. He’ll be re-evaluated when the team returns to Vancouver and didn’t provide a timeline for recovery.
The Canucks called up rookie Evan Oberg from the American Hockey League to take his place against the Predators.
Bieksa is the fourth Canucks’ defenceman in the last five games to get hurt, and the sixth to be knocked out of action over the last three weeks.
“It’s one of those things that you can’t really control,” said Bieksa. “It’s part of the game. It’s unfortunate the string of bad luck that we’re having around here, especially on the back end, but I’m not going to sulk for too long.
“I’m going to try to stay in the best shape I can so when my foot’s healed I can step right back in.”
