Veteran forward Doug Weight named captain of the New York Islanders

UNIONDALE, N.Y. – Veteran forward Doug Weight was named captain of the New York Islanders on Friday.

Weight, a 38-year-old four-time all-star, had 38 points (10 goals, 28 assists) in 53 games last season.

He served as an alternate captain at times last season, his first with the Islanders.

Weight has recorded 1,007 points (275-732) in 1,184 career regular season games. He has also played for the New York Rangers, Edmonton Oilers, St. Louis Blues, Anaheim Ducks and Carolina Hurricanes over 18 NHL seasons.

Kyle Okposo, Richard Park, Mark Streit and Brendan Witt were named alternate captains by the Islanders.
