Veteran NHL goalie Sean Burke announces retirement on Tuesday

The 40-year-old netminder leaves the game after nearly 20 years in the league.

He spent last season with the Los Angeles Kings.

Selected 24th overall in the 1985 draft, Burke broke into the league near the end of the 1987-88 season with the New Jersey Devils after playing for Canada in the 1988 Olympics.

He suited up for nine NHL teams during his career and played for Canada several times.

He says he will miss the camaraderie with his teammates and the interaction with the fans the most. His main focus in retirement will be enjoying more time with his 14-year-old daughter Andie and 12-year-old son Brendan.
