VIDEO: Jacob Markstrom, Florida’s goalie of the future

Ever since he was drafted 31st overall by the Florida Panthers in the 2008 draft, Jacob Markstrom has been labeled the franchise's goalie of the future.

The 6-foot-6, 196-pound Swede has been brought along slowly by the club. After he arrived in North America from Brynas of the Swedish League in 2010, Markstrom spent the better part of two seasons with Florida's AHL affiliate in San Antonio. This year, after starter Jose Theodore was struck by injury, Markstrom was given the opportunity to be Florida's No. 1.

In 21 games this season, Markstrom is 7-13-1 for the last place team, with a 3.19 GAA and .904 save percentage. But the Panthers expect that as their young core grows, Markstrom will improve along with them.

THN's Rory Boylen talks to Markstrom and the Panthers about the growth of the 23-year-old netminder.
