After a tough season in 2010-11 when he split time between Ottawa and Colorado, Brian Elliott was only able to secure a one-year deal from the St. Louis Blues when he became a free agent last summer. Not a lot of job security for a 26-year-old man.
But in professional sports you earn job security and that is exactly what Elliott has done this season. In 22 starts he has 15 wins, five shutouts, a minuscule goals-against-average of 1.69 and a gaudy save percentage of .938.
In January, the Blues rewarded Elliott’s impressive play with a two-year extension and a healthy raise. THN’s Ryan Kennedy caught up with the Blues netminder to discuss playing goal for a Ken Hitchcock-coached team, juggling to clear his mind and much more.
