The first leg of the Canada-Russia Super Series kicked off Monday night in Gatineau, Que. And even though the Quebec League stars won the opener 3-2, the Russians came away with the highlight of the night.
Here is Vladimir Tkachev dangling his way to a beautiful tying goal in the third period.
A late 1995 birthday, which makes him draft eligible, Tkachev is known a bit for his hands. He has 13 points in 12 games with Omskie Yastrebi in Russia’s MHL – a Russian junior league – and in the under-18s last year he scored 11 points in seven games. That was tied second in the tournament, behind only Connor McDavid.
He’s also pulled off this bit of showmanship (just after the one-minute mark):
In the International Scouting Service’s October ranking, Tkachev was ranked 61st for the 2014 draft. Future offensive dynamo or future Rob Schremp? Time will tell.
The Russians take on the QMJHL stars again Wednesday in Sherbrooke before moving on to the OHL and WHL.
