Watch Henrik Lundqvist make absolutely unbelievable diving stick save on Ryan Johansen

Three games into the 2015-16 season, Henrik Lundqvist may already have the save of the year. After the Blue Jackets dumped the puck in, it took a funny hop towards the front of the net and Lundqvist dove towards his net with his stick to deny a Ryan Johansen empty-net attempt.

It may be just the first Saturday of the 2015-16 season but Henrik Lundqvist may have already made the save of the year.

In Satuday’s tilt against the Columbus Blue Jackets, the second half of a home-and-home, New York Rangers netminder Lundqvist made a diving stick save following a funny bounce that will go down as one of the absolute best stops you’ll ever see.

Lundqvist went behind his net to stop a dump in when the puck jumped off the boards. With the puck careening to the front of the net perilously, Lundqvist stuck out his paddle and dove towards the loose puck, getting his stick in front of Ryan Johansen’s one-time attempt just in time to turn it aside:

Is there any point debating whether or not this will be save of the year? Because, already, Lundqvist’s paddle stop seems like it will be impossible to top. Johansen had every inch of the net to shoot at but Lundqvist was somehow able to get his stick in front of the attempt.

Through two periods, Lundqvist stopped all 26 Columbus shots and was well on his way to win No. 3 to start the new campaign. Already this season, ‘King Henrik’ has been in fine form stopping all but four of the 67 shots that have come his way in 2015-16.
