‘Tonight Show’ host Jimmy Fallon has been making fun of NHL player photos all post-season and he didn’t stop just because it’s the Stanley Cup final. Chicago’s Patrick Kane draws one of the first good barbs, but Tampa Bay’s Andrej Sustr gets the worst of it in ‘Tonight Show Superlatives.’
Throughout the post-season, NBC’s Tonight Show host Jimmy Fallon has had a running gag where he takes aim at the mug shots of players competing in the Stanley Cup playoffs.
Thus far, he’s called Alex Ovechkin a villain from the James Bond movie franchise, said Lightning backup goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy asks his barber to “ruin” his haircut and stopped just short of calling Predators center Matt Cullen creepy.
Following Game 1 of the final, Fallon was back with another round of his ‘Tonight Show Superlatives,’ and, again, not a single ridiculous photo was spared. We feel especially bad for Tampa Bay blueliner Andrej Sustr. You’ll understand why when you watch:
It’s hard to fault Fallon for taking shots at these photos because, quite frankly, a lot of them are pretty ridiculous and he does a great job pointing it out. Blackhawks winger Joakim Nordstrom, for example, does look a bit like a cartoonish French villain in his photo and Patrick Kane, for all his talents, does still have a young look about him.
Maybe one of the most fitting descriptors, though, comes when Fallon imitates what would be a blank, dissatisfied stare from Marian Hossa. At 36, Hossa still plays like he’s in his twenties, so it wouldn’t be shocking if he turned out to be a robot. At the very least, he certainly does not seem like someone you’d want to cross.
