Watch Shumakov score fantastic lacrosse style shootout goal at KHL fan day

The KHL season begins shortly but Sergei Shumakov doesn’t look like he wants to wait to dazzle the fans. At a fan day, Shumakov scored a backhand, lacrosse-style shootout goal that required some keen hand-eye coordination.

The KHL season is drawing ever-closer, and it looks like Sergei Shumakov’s hands are ready for a new campaign.

At Sibir Novosibirsk’s pre-season fan day, which took place Thursday, the 22-year-old winger dazzled the crowd with a spectacular shootout goal that fooled nearly everyone in attendance. The goal, which utilized the lacrosse-style puck pickup and some tricky hand-eye coordination, had fans in attendance cheering for Shumakov and left the Novosibirsk goaltender scrambling to get a piece of the puck.

Unfortunately for him, the poor Sibir goaltender had no chance. Check it out:

It’s worth mentioning that Shumakov didn’t pick this puck up on his forehand, either. Using his backhand, he pulled the puck across his body, hoisted it into the air and then smacked the puck clean through his goaltender’s five hole. Oh, and he did it while approaching with good speed, just for a touch of added difficulty.

Shumakov is about to enter his fifth season with Sibir, but 2015-16 projects to be just his second full season with the KHL club. Previously, he had spent time in the VHL, the KHL’s feeder system, but he cracked the Novosibirsk lineup full-time in 2014-15. He set career highs in every offensive category this past season, notching 16 goals and 24 points in 52 games.

With hands like that, maybe a 20-goal year is on the horizon for Shumakov. If nothing else, he’s got shootout specialist written all over him.
