Avert your eyes, Toronto Maple Leafs fans. The sight of Phil Kessel in a Pittsburgh Penguins jersey may be too much to bear.
Pittsburgh’s newest sniper was taking his photo in his new duds for the club this afternoon, and the Penguins social media team sent out a photo of Kessel in his brand new No. 81 jersey.
Acquired by the Penguins on the opening day of free agency, Kessel has yet to be spotted in Pittsburgh’s jersey. While some fancy photoshop work has been spread around, this is the first time the real thing is out there, and, after six seasons as a Maple Leaf, Kessel as a Penguin looks so very strange. Weird as it may be to see Kessel in a Penguins jersey, there has likely been more than a few flying off the shelves in Pittsburgh. The 27-year-old right winger is one of the league’s greatest pure goal scorers and there’s little doubt he’ll become a fan favorite in Pittsburgh due to his offensive prowess.
This past season with the Maple Leafs, Kessel scored 25 goals and 61 points. He’s a five-time 30-goal scorer and possesses one of the best wrist shots in the league. That said, no matter how many goals he scores, it’s going to take some time to adjust to Kessel rocking black and gold.
