White scores in overtime as Bulldogs beat Griffins, even AHL series at 2-2

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Ryan White scored 2:42 into overtime as the Hamilton Bulldogs beat the Grand Rapids Griffins 4-3 in Monday and tied their American Hockey League North Division semifinal series 2-2.

White’s goal came after Hamilton erased a 3-0 Grififns lead in the third period.

The Griffins opened the scoring 34 seconds into the first when Aaron Gagnon beat Hamilton goalie Marc Denis on a breakaway.

Jamie Tardif gave the Griffins a 2-0 lead at 9:37 of the first, banging a the loose puck past Denis.

Grand Rapids scored 44 seconds into the third frame to take a 3-0 lead. Justin Abdelkader scored on a rebound of a Brian Lashoff shot.

The Bulldogs got on the board whit a short-handed goal at 7:58 of the third. Ryan Russell fed a pass behind a Griffins’ defender and onto the stick of Kyle Chipchura. Chipchura raced in towards the net, backhanding the puck through the legs of Grad Rapids starter Jimmy Howard.

Ben Maxwell cut the lead to one goal at 9:41 while on the power play. David Desharnais received the puck from Mike Glumac before sending the puck across the ice to Maxwell, who snapped a shot from the bottom of the right faceoff circle past Howard.

Maxwell added his second goal at 11:27 while on the power play. Mathieu Carle passed the puck along the blue line to Desharnais, who waited with the puck before setting-up Maxwell for a one-timer.

Denis made 33 saves for Hamilton while Howard stopped 20 shots for Grand Rapids.

Game 5 is Friday in Grand Rapids.
