Wolves edge Penguins 5-4 to win Game 1 of Calder Cup final

ROSEMONT, Ill. – Jordan LaVallee and Kevin Doell had a goal and an assist each as the Chicago Wolves took Game 1 of the Calder Cup final, beating the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins 5-4 Thursday.

Bryan Little, Jesse Schultz and Joel Kwiatkowski scored the other goals for Chicago, which went 2-for-4 on the power play. Ondrej Pavelec backstopped the victory with 30 saves for the Wolves.

“We have to play much better defensively,” said Wolves head coach John Anderson. “When you score five goals in a championship series you’re happy offensively, but when you allow four… I’m not too keen on that.”
