Worst trade of the decade

Devin Golets, Toronto

After reading Ken Campbell’s article, “Wrong Guy, Wrong Move” from the Jan. 11, 2010 issue I could not agree more Toronto’s trade of Tuukka Rask to Boston for Andrew Raycroft was the worst of the decade.

The saddest part of it is the fact it was so obvious the trade would not work in favor of the Leafs. I have been a diehard Leaf fan my entire life and can remember watching Pierre McGuire announcing the Leafs were about to make the deal on draft day. I prayed for a couple minutes that John Ferguson Jr., would somehow realize how stupid even the thought of trading Rask for Raycroft was.

It says a lot about Ferguson and the Leafs organization when a 14-year-old at the time could foresee the results of such a poor trade so easily, but the Leafs could not.

The Leafs will be haunted for the next decade by that trade, truly the worst of the 2000s.
