Assault charge stayed against NHL's Derek Boogaard in Sask court

Prosecutor James Fitzgerald says the Crown has decided not to move forward with the case against Derek Boogaard, 24, of the Minnesota Wild. Boogaard was charged with assault causing bodily harm after an alleged fight at a Regina nightclub last August.

But Fitzgerald says that once the Crown spoke with the complainant, it was determined there was no reasonable chance of conviction.

Boogaard, who makes his home in Regina in the off-season, was not in court.

His lawyer says Boogaard has always said he did nothing wrong and is pleased that the charge has been stayed.
