Atlant Mytishchi beats Lokomotiv 3-2 in overtime to take 2-0 series lead in KHL Gagarin Cup semifinal

Atlant Mytishchi defeated Lokomotiv 3-2 in overtime Friday in Yaroslavl to take a 2-0 lead in their Kontinental League Gagarin Cup Western Conference final series. Skating with a one-man advantage after Lokomotiv defenseman Alexander Guskov was sent off with a penalty, Altant attacker Igor Musatov beat Lokomotiv netminder Alexander Vyukhin in the 74th minute for the win.

Jan Bulis put Altant up early with a goal in the 12th minute. Lokomotiv came back with two quick strikes by Alexander Galimov (26th minute) and Alexander Korolyuk (29th minute) midway through the second period to take a 2-1 lead. The advantage was short-lived, however, as Atlant’s Igor Musatov beat Vyukhin in the 34th minute.

Following a scoreless third period, Musatov netted his second goal of the night to give Atlant a 2-0 series advantage as they head home for the next two games.

The Gagarin Cup playoffs continue Saturday with the second game of the Salavat Yulaev-Metallurg Magnitogorsk series in Ufa. Lokomotiv and Atlant will return to action on Sunday, March 27th in Mytishchi.
