Avalanche rookie Duchene suffers a torso injury against Blackhawks

DENVER - Colorado Avalanche rookie Matt Duchene suffered a torso injury Friday night and did not return to the game against Chicago.

Duchene was hurt in the first period against the Blackhawks and was ruled out for the rest of the game.

Duchene, 19, was the third overall pick in the 2009 NHL Amateur Draft in June and has made an immediate impact. He leads all NHL rookies in goals (24) and points (55) and helped the Avalanche get back to the playoffs after finishing last in the Western Conference last season.
