The Colorado Avalanche have claimed forward Chris Wagner off of waivers from the Anaheim Ducks.

The 24-year-old has appeared in 11 games for the Ducks this season registering a minus-2 rating while averaging 9:46 in ice time. Wagner was tied for second on the Ducks in hits (32) and ranked fourth in penalty minutes (17) prior to being placed on waivers on Saturday.

Originally a 2010 fifth-round pick of the Ducks, Wagner also appeared in three AHL games this season with the San Diego Gulls scoring one goal and an assist.

Wagner is on a one-year, $600,000 contract. According to GeneralFanager.com, he is eligible to become a Group 6 unrestricted free agent on July 1, if he hasn't played 72 career NHL games by the end of the season.

In 20 career NHL games with the Ducks, Wagner has 19 penalty minutes.

To make room for Wagner on the roster, Colorado placed goaltender Semyon Varlamov on injured reserve retroactive to Nov. 10.

Wagner is expected to join the Avs for their game Tuesday in Toronto.
